MD: Competitive Power Ventures Seeking Environmental Permits for Natural Gas Fuel Generating Plant

Power company seeks permit for southern Maryland plant

Competitive Power Ventures Inc., a power plant developer and manager, is seeking environmental permits for a natural gas fuel generating plant.

The Silver Spring-based company wants to build the plant in St. Charles, Md., in an industrial area previously permitted for electric generation. The plant would cool itself with treated wastewater from a treatment plant at Mattawoman, Md.

Under the proposal, construction could start in 2009 and be completed in 2011. The project is to create 350 to 400 jobs, and the plant would be one of the largest taxpayers in the county.
