LA: Bevolo Gas & Electric Lights to Expand

EDF ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF BEVOLO CORP. TO THE NORTH SHORE

The St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation is pleased to announce the arrival and expansion of Bevolo Gas and Electric Lights on the North Shore.

Bevolo was founded in 1945 in the French Quarter. Bevolo is now the leader of hand made copper gas and electric lights in the world. Following Hurricane Katrina, Bevolo opened a production facility near Covington which employs about 20 craftsmen. In April, Bevolo opened a retail storefront on Hwy. 59 in Mandeville, the company’s first strictly-retail endeavor. In addition, plans are underway to build a new facility of approximately 25,000 square feet in the Alamosa Business Park.

STEDF staff worked with Bevolo executives to navigate state incentive programs and find suitable land for the new construction.  Input from MEPoL, the Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Louisiana, has helped Bevolo improve its already-successful operation.

“This Northshore facility runs like a well-oiled machine,” said Chris Bevolo of the Covington-area factory. “It’s helping us move forward as opposed to idling.”

“We’re delighted that Bevolo has found even greater success in St. Tammany Parish, and we are happy to have been a resource for them in this endeavor,” said STEDF Executive Director Brenda Reine-Bertus.  “Bevolo’s success is a boon for St. Tammany Parish and is another testament to the business-friendly atmosphere our community offers.”

“We try to maintain the values of a family business with corporate organization,” Chris Bevolo said of his family’s ever-growing enterprise. “We’re definitely growing as a company overall, and hope to bring at least 100 new jobs to St. Tammany in the next five years.”
