A123 Systems to Manufacture Batteries for Hybrid & Electric Vehicles Watertown-based A123 Systems will manufacture the batteries for five plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles to be sold by Chrysler. The first of these vehicles is slated to be available in 2010. A123 Systems makes lithium-ion batteries with a chemistry that it says is safer, more powerful, and longer lasting than the lithium-ion batteries now used in portable electronics and some electric cars.
