This issue addresses the needs of expanding companies in the bioscience and logistics industries. Our experts offer a wide variety of options based on their experience in these markets. In addition, our “Special Report” focuses on foreign-trade zones and the many benefits offered to pharmaceutical and 3PL providers. Our “Industry Outlooks” present interesting overviews of the bioscience and 3PL markets as they continue to grow. With this issue we are also launching the FTZ portal on our website. This comprehensive database is complete with contact information, subzones, ports of entry and additional information your company needs when looking to move into a foreign-trade zone.

 Summer 2004

Determining your company’s needs and finding places or solutions to satisfy them is a daunting task. Hopefully this edition of Trade & Industry Development will help the decision making process. A good place to start is our two-part “Special Report,” where experts offer excellent advice in assessing your company’s needs, both internally and externally. Once you determine to take the process further, look to our “Feature” articles for solutions in the plastics and manufacturing sectors. If you are considering expansion and need a cost effective way to do it, look to the federal government. In the article entitled ‘Get in the Fast Lane,’ many options are available to companies needing efficient space and a qualified workforce. Finally, for an overview of the plastics and manufacturing sectors, look to the “Industry Outlooks” provided by SPI an NAM. These national associations provide unique perspectives on the economic recovery for their respective industries.

 Winter 2004

Pursue the Potential Pittsburgh Property Pronto... By now we've all seen the IBM commercials on T.V. advertising e-business on demand. From the Business Genie, to the 30-second site selection decision (Nextel's flip phone executive meeting), these commercials create a world where decisions and solutions come easily. While we can't do magic at T&ID, we do have some solutions that will help in your next location decision. In this issue, dedicated to site selection for technology companies and call center operations, we tap into the vast knowledge of leading site selection experts, as well as industry outlooks provided by AEA and CIAC.

 Spring 2004

In this edition of Trade & Industry Development, we look at the driving factors for site selection in the Aerospace and Automotive industries. Award winning site selection consultants, Bob Ady (Ady International) and Jeanette Goldsmith (McCallum Sweeney), present excellent articles depicting site selection criteria for these sectors. Additionally, we look at the impact of the Electric Power Grid as it relates to site selection decisions in the “Special Report.” Our “Case Study” on the Boeing 7E7 announcement in late 2003 shows the effort one state made to land the aerospace giant. Also, look to our “Industry Outlooks,” written by SAE and AIA, for insight and issues in the coming year.
