UT: Vivint Solar, SolarCity Awarded 2016 CiCi Community Impact Award

Mar 21, 2016

In a recent announcement, two Utah companies are the recipients of the 2016 CiCi “Community Impact Award” from Trade & Industry Development. Out of the 15 awardees, Utah and Louisiana were the only two states with multiple recognitions. By adding a combined, projected 7,143 jobs to Utah, it’s easy to see why these most recent expansions are getting national recognition.

“These two companies are at the forefront of energy tech and we’re excited to see this growth happening in Utah,” said Val Hale, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED). “We know both Vivint Solar and SolarCity are certainly going to have a strong impact on our community.”

With a combined capital investment of $236M, Vivint Solar and SolarCity are adding a large footprint to the “Silicon Slopes” neighborhood.

“Draper is rapidly growing and having SolarCity as a part of that growth is going to be a solid boon for our city,” said Troy Walker, mayor of Draper City. “We’d like to congratulate them on this achievement and look forward to other opportunities moving forward.”

Representing a wide assortment of businesses and locales, the CiCi awards showcase outstanding achievement in the impact on a community, not just money invested. These two companies are a leading example for sustainable and efficient economic growth.

“We’re proud to represent the businesses that are expanding and growing in Utah county,” said Greg Butterfield, CEO of Vivint Solar. “Our solar energy systems provide lower-priced, clean, renewable energy while offering energy independence for homeowners and we look forward to supporting Utah’s economic infrastructure.”
