# TX: City of Hutto OKs Econ Dev Package for Blue Origin Facility, Which Could Create 2,000+ Jobs

The City of Hutto, Texas, recently approved an economic development package for a proposed manufacturing facility for aerospace company Blue Origin that may bring thousands of jobs to the Austin area.

In a joint meeting recently, the City Council and the Hutto Economic Development Corporation approved the performance and incentive agreements for "Project Blue Hub," after about an hour in executive session.

Public details about Project Blue Hub come from a one-minute public hearing at the Hutto Economic Development Corporation's May 11 meeting, according to official minutes. Texas law allows cities to withhold some information about pending economic development deals while negotiations continue. Any final vote, however, must be taken in open session.

City officials described the project as a 1.3-million-square-foot manufacturing facility that could create more than 2,000 jobs with an average annual salary of $88,000 over five years in the suburb located less than 30 miles north of Austin. The project would represent a more than $650 million investment, reports Yahoo!News.

Although Blue Origin has not publicly confirmed it is behind Project Blue Hub, the company's director of Texas government relations, Summer Webb, attended the recent meeting, but declined to comment beyond saying any potential project remained under negotiation. Blue Origin has reportedly been evaluating sites in Texas and Florida for a manufacturing facility. The company has not announced where it plans to build the facility.

Opportunity Austin CEO Susan Davenport said the regional economic development organization was involved in discussions about Project Blue Hub, but did not reveal details about the project before the Hutto City Council could vote on the item.
