TN: Medtronic's Formal Opening of Facility

Like most things in business, Medtronic Inc.'s new logistics and distribution campus can best be described in numbers:

• $65 million investment;

• 275,000 square feet;

• 10,000 parts moved every day;

• 2.5 miles of conveyor tracks;

• 260 employees;

• $40,000 average estimated salary;

• two buildings;

• five minutes from FedEx Corp. hub;

• and 12-14 hours from Memphis to operating rooms around the world.

Medtronic's Swinnea Road expansion is part of the company's five-year plan for greater efficiency and is as "state of the art as it gets," said Chris Cambre, the campus project's manager.
