GA: DC BLOX Set to Build Hyperscale-Ready Data Center Campus in Rockdale County, Georgia

Dec 13, 2023
The 750,000 square foot campus will feature 216MW of power and connectivity to a new dark fiber ring around Atlanta

DC BLOX, a leading provider of connected data centers and dark fiber solutions across the Southeast, announced that it has acquired 72 acres of land in Conyers, Georgia in Rockdale County for a new hyperscale-ready data center campus. The campus is designed at full build-out to accommodate 750,000 square feet of space with 216MW of total power committed by Georgia Power.

With a hyperscale client anchoring the first phase of the project, 160,000 square feet of space will be available to additional tenants with expected delivery in 4Q 2025.

DC BLOX also plans to build a dark fiber ring around the Atlanta metropolitan area as part of the project. The ring will provide significant new fiber capacity for campus tenants and will also provide a resilient connection to the DC BLOX dark fiber route transiting from Atlanta to its Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Cable landing station, offering global connectivity options. The location of the facility in the communications hub of the Southeast, combined with its built-in high-capacity fiber routes offers a prime opportunity for a regional hyperscale peering point for interconnection.

The new data center campus will be located in Conyers, Georgia approximately 24 miles to the east of downtown Atlanta. The property has been granted certain incentives by the Development Authority of Rockdale County through its agent, Conyers Rockdale Economic Development Council (CREDC). The facility will be developed with DC BLOX’s design and construction partners: Evans General Contractors, DLB Associates, Corgan, Thomas & Hutton, and Bennett & Pless.

“DC BLOX’s ability to build vertically integrated infrastructure solutions including data centers and dark fiber networks is proving to be an important differentiator for our customers,” said Jeff Uphues, CEO of DC BLOX. “We have built a reputation for the development of cutting-edge colocation data centers, cable landing stations, and fiber networks across the Southeast, so we are well-positioned to meet the rigorous requirements of hyperscalers and AI/ML platform and application providers.”

"A focus shared by each member of the Authority is to achieve thoughtful and impactful growth that reflects positively within our community and the region,” declares Dr. Stephen Bovle, Chairman of the Development Authority of Rockdale County. “DC BLOX certainly meets the criteria of the goals we have discussed over the last eighteen months and its presence represents a step forward for the vision we share for our community."

The Atlanta market is experiencing unprecedented growth in data center consumption and pre-leasing activity driven largely by hyperscaler expansions to markets closer to their consumers, the rapid growth of AI/ML applications, and power constraints in primary data center markets like Northern Virginia.

“The CREDC is excited to welcome DC BLOX to our community,” said Kevin Hanna, President of the Conyers Rockdale Economic Development Council. “Throughout our discussions with DC BLOX we have been impressed with their willingness to share information and implement recommendations from the community regarding the design of the planned data centers. We view their presence as the foundation of an ecosystem that will give rise to new tech investments throughout the County and the city of Conyers for years to come.”
