IN: Kronos to Open New Technology Center of Excellence in Indianapolis, Create up to 250 New Jobs

Lt. Governor Becky Skillman and Mayor Greg Ballard joined executives from Kronos Incorporated today to announce that the company will open a new office in Indianapolis, creating up to 250 new jobs by 2015.

Headquartered in Chelmsford, Mass., Kronos is a global leader in workforce management solutions that enable organizations to control labor costs, minimize compliance risk and improve workforce productivity. The company plans to invest more than $5.1 million on its new technology center at PNC Tower in downtown Indianapolis. The Indianapolis technology center, which will open its doors in January, will be focused on providing customer implementation services and will complement other Kronos technology centers in Chelmsford, Mass.; Montreal, Canada; and Noida, India.

"Kronos' decision to open its new technology center here is proof that Indiana is an ideal place for growth-oriented, high-tech companies to do business," said Skillman. "We welcome Kronos to the Indianapolis community and are excited that the types of jobs this up-and-coming company will be creating are the ones that our bright Hoosiers are looking for."

Founded in 1977, Kronos produced the world's first microprocessor-based time clock in 1979. Today, organizations in more than 60 countries around the world, including more than half of the Fortune 1000^®, use the company's time and attendance, scheduling, absence management, HR and payroll, hiring and labor analytics applications. Kronos has a number of customers based in Indianapolis including Ball State University, Indiana University Health, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Kronos Incorporated up to $2.5 million in performance-based tax credits and up to $300,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. The city of Indianapolis and Develop Indy will support Kronos with a training grant and parking assistance, as well as a property tax abatement, pending approval from the Metropolitan Development Commission. The Indy Partnership provided site selection assistance and data analysis.

According to TechAmerica Foundation's Cyberstates 2011 report released last week, Indiana is the 23rd largest cyberstate employing more than 70,000 people in 2010, with a total payroll of $4.3 billion. Last year, the largest employment gains in the Hoosier state's high-tech industry came from the computer systems design and related services sector and the engineering services sector.
