Summit Packaging Systems recently broke ground in Racine, Wis., on a facility expansion of 77,000 square feet, which is expected to create about 145 jobs. Construction on the $20 million expansion is expected to be complete in the next 12 months.

Summit has had a presence in Racine for about 15 years, reports The Journal Times. Seth Gilroy, grandson of the company's founder and current operations manager, said that southeastern Wisconsin has "a lot of great local resources."

On hand for the groundbreaking were City of Racine Mayor Cory Mason and Department of City Development Assistant Director Matt Rejc; the Racine County Economic Development Corp.'s Executive Director Jenny Trick; Gateway Technical College Vice President Matthew Janisin; and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

The expansion is being supported by up to half-a-million in tax credits from WEDC and a tax-increment district created by the City of Racine, reports The Journal Times.
