Georgia Center of Innovation for Aerospace Leads Team to EAA AirVenture

Jul 25, 2012

The Georgia Center of Innovation for Aerospace (COIA) and the state’s local aerospace industry is on display at the EAA AirVenture Convention, one of the world’s largest aviation events, July 23-29 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) was founded in Wisconsin in 1953.

The Georgia Aerospace Exhibit features static displays of aircraft and UAVs, along with information about the state’s industry. Together with the COIA, Georgia’s exhibit partners include: The Georgia Department of Economic Development, Middle Georgia College Aviation, True Flight Aerospace, Guided Systems Technologies, Aerobat Aviation, Paulding County Development Authority and Atlanta Regional Airport.

The EAA AirVenture Convention, simply called “Oshkosh” by aviation aficionados, annually hosts nearly 550,000 attendees, 10,000 aircraft and 800 exhibitors, 1000 presenters and coverage from over 900 credentialed media representatives. Steve Justice, Director of the COIA, spearheaded conference participation to highlight Georgia’s strength in the aerospace industry to the world.

“Georgia is an aerospace powerhouse with more than 500 companies and $5.4 billion in international aerospace exports annually,” Justice said. “Oshkosh is the premier aviation event highlighting innovation in our industry, therefore it is the perfect place for us to exhibit and highlight the Georgia aerospace industry.”

In the coming months, Georgia will host two major international aerospace events, including the Atlanta chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA-Atlanta) Joint Propulsion Conference (July 30-August1), and the International Air Cargo Association Conference (October 2-4). Both are expected to draw thousands of aerospace leaders to the state.

The Georgia Centers of Innovation (GCOI) is one of the state's key resources for providing expertise, connections and innovative solutions to help Georgia’s strategic industries grow and compete globally. For more information, visit www.Georgia.org
