The first Airbus supplier to locate in Alabama announced plans to hire up to 50 people in the Mobile area. Safran Engineering Services, the wiring systems subsidiary of global aerospace giant the Safran Group, will locate a new facility at Brookley Aeroplex. The company will provide engineering services for the aerospace industry.

Labinal announced that the company will operate an engineering support facility at the Brookley Aeroplex.  Labinal is part of the aerospace giant Safran Group and is a global leader in electrical wiring systems for the aerospace and defense industries.  Labinal is expected to hire 30 to 50 people for highly skilled engineering support services jobs at the Mobile office.

Labinal, one of the Safran companies, has divisions in Europe (France, Germany and the UK) and North America (U.S. and Mexico), as well as a research division with a total staff of 4,700 as of 2006. It produces wiring solutions for the global aerospace industry, including Agusta, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer, Dassault, Eurocopter, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. The company is a world leader in the design, manufacturing and installation of wire harnesses for the aerospace and defense industries, including the corporate staff and wiring factory. The Brookley Airplex also hosts Singapore Technologies, another Labinal customer less than one mile from the future Airbus Final Assembly Line.

Over the years, Alabama state government officials, the City of Mobile, the Mobile Airport Authority, and the characteristic southern hospitality of local residents have made Alabama consistently attractive for new business.

"We are committed to recruiting high-quality, high-paying jobs,” Governor Bentley said.  “This announcement is the latest example of how state and local leaders work together to get positive results.  I want to welcome Labinal and Safran Engineering Services as our newest corporate citizen, and I want to thank everyone who worked together to make this announcement possible.”

Labinal has been in business for 90 years and has employees in 10 countries across the world.  Labinal establishing a presence in Alabama further increases the state’s profile and credibility in the global aerospace community.

“Alabama is poised for tremendous growth in the aerospace sector,” Governor Bentley said.  “Labinal joining us in Alabama shows how we are building on the state’s momentum in the aerospace industry.  I am confident this is the first of many announcements of new jobs from companies that will support Airbus.”

Alabama Department of Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield said the fact that Airbus located its first U.S. plant in the state is already drawing attention to Alabama worldwide; much like the Mercedes-Benz announcement did in 1993. “There is no doubt that Alabama will continue to attract many more top-notch companies such as Labinal. Alabama is already a U.S. leader in automotive manufacturing and the Airbus announcement puts the state in line to be located in the middle of the next aerospace power center,” Canfield said.

Canfield said he is proud to have a company of Labinal’s caliber in Alabama and looks forward to a long and prosperous future for the company in the state.

“Labinal is very excited to be the first supplier to join the Airbus Engineering team in Mobile, Alabama. This new office reflects Labinal and Safran Engineering Services’ commitment to support our customers locally and expand our relationship with Airbus. We look forward to being in Alabama and being part of the Mobile community.” says Karen Bomba, CEO of Labinal.
