KS, MO: Invenergy LLC Announces Plans for Transmission Line Project, Expected to Create Jobs

Dec 05, 2018

Invenergy LLC has announced plans to buy the development assets of Clean Line Energy Partners’ Grain Belt Express transmission line project.

The Grain Belt Express Clean Line project is planned to deliver up to 4 GW of wind power produced in Kansas to states in the eastern US. The 780-mile (1,255 km) overhead power line is planned to transport up to 500 MW of wind power from western Kansas into Missouri and up to 3,500 MW to states farther east. Regulators in Kansas, Illinois, Missouri and Indiana have already endorsed the scheme, the investment in which is estimated at $2.3 billion.

Houston-based Clean Line Energy Partners did not cite any specific reasons for exiting the scheme. Invenergy said the acquisition is subject to regulatory clearance but did not provide particular details about the transaction.

Invenergy, which has over 20 GW of renewable and other clean energy and power storage projects, has developed over 400 miles of transmission infrastructure in the US. The company explained that the addition of the Grain Belt Express project to its portfolio will enhance its “commitment to rural economic development and job creation.”
