MS: General Dynamics Information Technology Expands with 1,000 New Jobs

May 31, 2013

Gov. Phil Bryant announced that General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics, is locating a new Customer Support Center in the Cloverleaf Center on Hwy. 49 South in Hattiesburg, Miss. The project is expected to create 1,000 jobs.

The new center will support General Dynamics’ contracts with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, including the 1-800-MEDICARE program, by providing responses to inquiries from CMS customers and beneficiaries across the nation. General Dynamics delivers operations and maintenance support for several Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services programs including the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program, Retiree Drug Subsidy program and the ViPS Medicare System. General Dynamics’ has worked with CMS since 2005.

The new Hattiesburg project is in addition to the Federal Student Aid Information Center project announced by the company in February 2013, which will create an additional 225 new jobs by this summer, increasing to 250 by spring 2014.

“I am grateful to the team at General Dynamics for expanding its presence in Hattiesburg and creating so many new jobs for the area’s workers. Just three months ago, the company announced it was locating a Federal Student Aid Information Center in Hattiesburg, and that project is expected to create 250 jobs by next spring,” Governor Bryant said. “Without a doubt, this announcement today serves as a testament to the supportive business climate found in Mississippi and to our skilled workers. Mississippi is a great place for businesses to locate and expand, and I thank General Dynamics for once again investing in our state and in our workforce.”

The Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance in support of the project for building modifications, in addition to local and state statutory tax incentives and workforce training assistance.

“This is a great day for Hattiesburg and the state of Mississippi as General Dynamics Information Technology strengthens its roots in our state by locating additional operations here,” MDA Executive Director Brent Christensen said. “We are honored MDA could once again support General Dynamics as the company continues to grow in Hattiesburg, and we thank the team at the Area Development Partnership for their hard work and diligence in bringing this project to fruition.”

General Dynamics will be staffing the new call center with customer service representatives during summer 2013.  Prospective applicants are encouraged to apply by visiting the General Dynamics IT career page at www.gdit.com/careers and entering “Mississippi” as the location on the job search page. Job fairs will be planned and announced in the coming months.
