NC: Pepsi Bottling Ventures Invests $82M in New Facility, Retains 300 Jobs

Jul 16, 2012

Pepsi Bottling Ventures has chosen to expand its bottling operations in Winston-Salem. The new facility will be located in Union Cross Business Park at 390 Business Park Drive.

Pepsi will invest nearly $82 million in facility up-fit, machinery and equipment. The new facility will allow Pepsi to retain more than 300 current jobs and consolidate additional jobs within one facility. The new facility will streamline operations and allow for vertical integration of production as well. Pepsi began operating in Winston-Salem in 1910.

"Winston-Salem is the ideal location for our company, given its excellent workforce, low cost-of-doing business, and easy highway access to distribute our Pepsi products," said George Suddath, VP of Corporate Affairs. "We appreciate the support we have received from the City of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, which made it possible for us to remain and expand here," he added.

The City of Winston-Salem will provide $1,000,000 and Forsyth County will provide an additional $737,582 in incentives for this project.

"Pepsi has been an integral part of Winston-Salem’s economy for more than 100 years, and the Chamber was pleased to assist in helping our community compete for this advanced production facility," said Gayle N. Anderson, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce. "Winston-Salem was selected because of the excellent package it offered and because of Pepsi’s positive experiences in our community. We are fortunate to have Pepsi and these jobs in Winston-Salem."

Additionally, Bob Leak, Jr., president of Winston-Salem Business, Inc. (WSBI) said, "Pepsi's decision to expand their bottling operations in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County is great news for our community. The quality of our local work force coupled with excellent real estate options made this expansion possible."

Pepsi Bottling Ventures is the largest privately-held bottler for Pepsi-Cola products in North America and operates 28 bottling and distribution facilities in North Carolina, New York, Maryland, Delaware, Vermont, Idaho, and South Carolina serving over nine million consumers.
