Amazon will provide on-site COVID-19 vaccination events for frontline employees, starting in Missouri, Nevada, and Kansas. Over the coming weeks, employees working in some Amazon fulfillment centers in those three states will receive vaccines administered by licensed health care providers.
Amazon plans to expand the program, run in partnership with local government and public health officials, across the country as more vaccines become available to frontline employees in other states. The retailer has been conducting a proprietary, voluntary COVID-19 testing program for fulfillment facility workers since June 2020, and says it is using learnings from testing in its vaccination effort.
Amazon is also offering up to $80 to frontline employees who get vaccinated off-site, and spent its entire second-quarter operating profit on COVID-19-related expenses. According to the company, it has spent $11.5 billion on COVID-19-related measures overall.
“Employees working in Amazon fulfillment centers, AWS data centers, and Whole Foods Market stores in the U.S. have been helping customers stay safe and receive vital products and services at home,” Amazon said in a corporate blog post. “The services are especially critical for people with underlying medical conditions and those susceptible to complications from COVID-19. We are proud our employees have helped customers stay safe, and we’ll continue investing in processes and changes to protect our employees and communities around the world.”
