Anixter, a leading global distributor of communication and security products, electrical and electronic wire & cable, fasteners and other small parts, announced that it is constructing a new LEED®-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building as part of its corporate headquarters campus in the Chicago suburb of Glenview. The annex of Anixter's corporate facilities is a reflection of the company's overall strong growth and commitment to the Village of Glenview, Cook County and the State of Illinois.
"Our new facility will support our continued growth plans while offering more convenience for our employees, partners and customers," said Bill Standish, Executive Vice President Operations at Anixter. "The new facility helps to improve operational efficiency by bringing together employees to one centralized corporate campus."
Anixter will invest more than $10 million in this new property and will continue to contribute to the economic well being of Illinois through the creation and retention of over 125 jobs in the Chicagoland area
According to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, "The state's targeted investment package, estimated at $2 million, includes Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) tax credits, which are based on jobs and distributed over a period of 10 years and a training grant through the Employer Training Investment Program (ETIP). The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) will administer the package, which will help create 66 new jobs and retain 60 jobs."
Construction of the new facility commenced at a ground breaking ceremony on Friday, August 17, and Anixter expects to have occupancy beginning in April of 2013.
In accordance with Anixter's corporate sustainability philosophy, Anixter will work toward LEED certification at the completion of its construction, joining other LEED-certified buildings in the U.S. Anixter continuously seeks to improve business processes to control and reduce the impact associated with its targeted environmental aspects of energy, waste, materials and natural resources. By targeting measurable results within each environmental facet, Anixter balances corporate social responsibility and return on investment.
