KS: New DEMDACO Distribution Center to be Built in Edgerton

Jun 27, 2013

NorthPoint Development and NAI Capital Realty announced the execution of a long-term lease with DEMDACO for a 326,650 square foot distribution center that will be custom built for the company at Logistics Park Kansas City (LPKC). DEMDACO, which specializes in artist-driven gift and home décor products, will create 40 new jobs at the facility over the next five years.

“We are thrilled to be one of the first tenants to relocate to Logistics Park Kansas City adjacent to the BNSF intermodal facility,” said DEMDACO Chief Operating Officer Steve Fowler. “This move will improve our operating efficiencies by being in a new, state-of-the-art facility and by being very close to the intermodal site through which most of our product is delivered.”

Located in Edgerton, LPKC is a 1,100-acre master-planned distribution and warehouse development that will be anchored by BNSF Railway’s newest intermodal facility, which will open in the fourth quarter of 2013.

DEMDACO will bring the total square footage under development at LPKC to more than 850,000 square feet. The company’s distribution center will be located near the entrance of the intermodal facility, which offers access to BNSF’s suite of intermodal service products and direct rail service from designated locations in the business park.

“We did considerable analysis and research to find the right long-term location for our distribution facility and our internal analysis showed that locating in a modern state-of-the- art facility at LPKC will help reduce our total operating costs for our distribution versus the alternatives that we studied,” Fowler said.

“It’s great to see that DEMDACO will expand its presence in the state at this facility,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George. “I’m excited that Kansas has a business environment that encourages companies to make investments such as this.”
