MO: 3M to Embark on $40M Springfield Expansion, Create 90 New Jobs

May 25, 2017

The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) announced that 3M, a global manufacturer, will expand its footprint in Springfield through a $40 million investment to its facility, where it produces industrial adhesives and tapes for the aerospace industry and other heavy industrial customers around the world. 3M expects its expansion to result in the creation of approximately 90 full-time positions over the next several years.

“We thank 3M for its decision to invest in Missouri and in our workers by creating dozens of new jobs,” said Gov. Eric Greitens. “3M is a science-based global company that manufactures more than 50,000 products that people use every day. We hope 3M’s expansion of its adhesives and tapes division in Missouri sends a message to those in the business community-- from the small family business to the major corporation-- that we are going to work to help them grow and prosper.”

3M intends to upgrade its current plant located in Springfield. The expansion helps solidify the company’s presence in Springfield.

“This investment builds upon our 50 years of successful operations in Springfield and our commitment to the community,” said Frederick James, plant manager, 3M Springfield.

Based in Minnesota, the Fortune 100 multinational company has operations in more than 70 countries. 3M also has operations throughout Missouri including Columbia and Nevada.

The City of Springfield, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce and the Springfield Business Development Corporation also assisted the company with its expansion.
