MO: Moore Gear Invests $1.8M, Adds 34 New Jobs in Hermann

Apr 29, 2015

The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) announced that local manufacturer Moore Gear and Manufacturing Company will invest more than $1.8 million to increase production capacity at its Hermann facility. The expansion project is expected to create 34 new jobs in the next five years.

“Missouri’s tradition of manufacturing excellence is built on companies like Moore Gear— family-owned businesses who hire locally, ship their products all over the world, and reinvest in their communities,” said Gov. Jay Nixon. “The state is proud to partner with Moore Gear on their expansion and grateful for their commitment to growing in Hermann.”

Moore Gear was founded in the 1930s in St. Louis and moved to Hermann, Mo. in 1987. The company manufactures custom gears and gear racks for the industrial, agricultural, machine tool, and commercial markets throughout North America. Propelled by its growing client base, Moore Gear plans to expand its facility by an additional 17,500 square feet of space.

Bill Haag, Sr., Moore Gear President and CEO, attributes the company’s success to the highly skilled employees working at the facility and looks to continue to grow employment opportunities at the Hermann location. The company has nearly doubled its employment since 2008. “The city’s commitment to creating a pro-business climate while tackling the difficult challenges facing many rural communities motivated us to make this investment in Hermann,” Haag said.

“The City of Hermann is delighted to announce the expansion of the Moore Gear production facility in Hermann,” said Hermann Mayor Tom Shabel. “Moore is a leading employer in Hermann and this expansion will create additional jobs in our city. We are gratified by the confidence Moore Gear has for the future of their business in Hermann.”

This is the second time in just six years that Moore Gear has expanded in Hermann. In 2009, the company added 21,000 square feet to its campus to accommodate for additional production and shipping capacity.

To assist Moore Gear with its expansion in Hermann, the Missouri Department of Economic Development has offered a strategic economic incentive package that the company can receive if it meets strict job creation and investment criteria. The Hermann Regional Economic Development Corporation also partnered with Moore Gear to make its expansion possible.
