OH: Abbott Nutrition Manufacturing Project Expected to Create 241 Jobs

Apr 11, 2012

The City of Tipp City (Miami County) will be awarded a Jobs Ready Site grant through the Ohio Department of Development's Ohio Job Ready Sites Program. This grant will help prepare a 60-acre piece of property that will be the future home of the Abbott Nutrition Manufacturing Plant. The project, which was approved today by the state controlling board, will receive a $1.6 million Job Ready Sites grant, and is expected to create 241 full-time jobs.

"This is a perfect example of the state's commitment to have sites across Ohio ready for business opportunities, which results in job growth," said Christiane Schmenk, Director of the Ohio Department of Development. "Assisting companies in these early phases of development will have a direct impact on the economy of our state."

The Ohio Job Ready Sites Program bolsters Ohio's portfolio of commercial and industrial developable sites, and assists in business attraction and expansion efforts by focusing on investments and job creation opportunities in Ohio. Properties in the program are strategically chosen for their ability to provide optimal infrastructure capabilities and attract economic-shifting investment.

The Abbott Nutrition property is located on County Road 25A in the City of Tipp City. Abbott Laboratories, in partnership with the City of Tipp City, will acquire the 60-acre project property and complete infrastructure improvements including the installation of dual electric feeds, sanitary sewer, and a 1,600-foot access road. The controlling board also today approved a Roadwork Development (629) Grant in the amount of $600,000 to complete public roadwork improvements to the site.

The Ohio Job Ready Sites Program was created to bolster the state's inventory of available facility locations served by utility and transportation infrastructure. Sites improved under the program are kept ready for future business prospects seeking locations for new or expanded operations.

Working with our partners across business, state and local governments, academia, and the nonprofit sector, the Ohio Department of Development works to attract, create, grow, and retain businesses through competitive incentives and targeted investments. Engaged every day in marketing, innovating, investing, and collaborating, the Ohio Department of Development works to accelerate and support the teamwork that is necessary for success by providing financial, informational, and technical assistance to those making an investment in Ohio's future.
