'Increase Your Impact' is Theme for 2024 National Welding Month in April

Mar 18, 2024

Welding careers are fundamental to safety and advancing the quality of life worldwide. Since 1996, the month of April has been designated “National Welding Month” to raise awareness of the welding industry and its available career paths.

The welding profession encompasses a broad community of technicians, professionals, processes and industries on which our economy and lifestyle wholly depend. Technological advancements, especially surrounding automation and robotics, present a significant need for skilled welding technicians, yet statistically, our workforce deficit is at about 90,000 workers per year.

According to Cassie Burrell, Senior VP, Marketing & Membership Development at AWS, “National Welding Month is a way for the welding industry to showcase how comprehensive and integral this skilled trade is to everyday life.” She continues, “This year‘s theme, ’Increase Your Impact,‘ is a call to continuous improvement and active engagement on individual, corporate and industry-wide levels.”

To celebrate our vast and diverse welding community of technicians, inspectors, supervisors, engineers, manufacturers, distributors, educators, committee volunteers and students, we have a variety of events planned throughout the month. These include:

Take The Torch Membership: Individuals who become AWS members during National Welding Month will receive 15 months of membership for the price of 12.

My Welding Story on Instagram: Every welder has a story to tell. Throughout the month, AWS will highlight stories from those in the welding community and share how welding has shaped their lives. If a welding industry professional would like their welding story to be considered, they can fill out the survey, for a chance to be featured on the American Welding Society’s Instagram Stories.

Special Instagram Live Episode of Weld Wednesday Podcast: Join us for a special AWS Instagram Live event of our Weld Wednesdays with AWS podcast, hosted by Jason Becker, as we delve into the theme of “Increasing Your Impact” in celebration of National Welding Month. It will be held on April 3 at 8 PM (EST). The featured guest will be Shanen Aranmór, founder of Weld Like a GirlTM, lead CWI/welding judge on Project MFG, and passionate skilled trades advocate. She will share how welding has impacted her life and career and how she has inspired individuals to make a difference in their personal careers, communities, and the industry as a whole.

ARCstars Video Challenge: AWS ARCstars will be sharing videos on Instagram that feature personal stories related to this year’s theme, “Increase Your Impact.” Once they have posted, each will tag three (3) others, challenging them to make a video on the same topic and keep the momentum going by tagging three of their friends. Anyone can participate in the Challenge, though. Be sure to tag [@americanweldingsociety]@americanweldingsociety in your video and use the hashtag #NWMchallenge.

AWS Foundation SWAG: Members who set up a monthly recurring donation of $3 or more at aws.org/donate will receive a limited-edition AWS Richardson Trucker Hat.

National Welding Month Discounts: Throughout April, AWS will be offering discounts on AWS products and services, including online training, Welding Handbook and more.
