Retail giant Walmart plans to remodel more than 650 supercenters and Neighborhood Markets in 2026 and says it will open approximately 20 new locations in 2026 and early 2027, as the company looks to modernize the shopping experience for customers and drive growth.
The remodels and openings are part of Walmart’s
In 2024, Walmart announced its commitment to open or convert more than 150 new larger-format locations over the next five years while continuing to update its existing stores; these latest remodels and openings are a part of that strategy, reports Chain Store Age. The current remodeling schedule includes 72 stores in Texas, 58 in Florida, 56 in California and 37 in North Carolina.
In 2025, Walmart opened nine new stores across Alabama, California, Florida, New Jersey, Texas and Utah. So far this year, the company has opened locations in Ocala, Fla., a supercenter in Eastvale, Calif., and three in Florida (at Apollo Beach, Jacksonville and The Villages). Additional 2026 store openings are slated for Celina, Texas, and Carolina Shores, N.C. Walmart will also continue its expansion in Florida.
The remodeled and new stores will feature wider aisles and updated layouts, along with expanded product assortments and improved displays. The interiors and exteriors have been updated with modern signage, improved parking and landscaping, reports Chain Store Age.
Other improvements will include expanded pickup and delivery services, including express delivery; updated vision centers and pharmacies with private consultation rooms; and new digital touchpoints to bring Walmart’s online assortment into the shopping experience, according to CSA.
As part of the remodel process, store employees will work alongside Walmart’s remodel teams, setting up new fixtures, organizing products and preparing the store to welcome customers back, the company said.
