AL: Food City Opens New Store in Athens, Its Fifth Store in Huntsville Market, With 180 Jobs

Food City recently opened a new 57,000-square-foot store on on Lucas Ferry Road in Athens, Alabama, which is employing 180. The location is the fifth of six stores the grocer has planned for the Huntsville market. The store will serve residents of Athens and Limestone County.

“Our first four Huntsville locations have been very well received, and we want to thank our valued customers for the warm welcome they’ve shown our company,” said Steven C. Smith, president and CEO. “We’re excited to open a fifth location in Athens to better serve the residents of Huntsville and Limestone County.”

“Our customers can expect exceptional service, top quality products at the lowest possible prices and outstanding variety and selection,” Smith added.

Additional amenities include a Food City Floral Boutique with a designer on-site seven days a week, a pharmacy, a Gas N’ Go fuel station and a Starbucks café. Curbside pickup and home delivery are available for online orders.

The store incorporates energy-saving features including energy-efficient glass cooler doors, 100 percent LED lighting, motion sensors, upgraded refrigeration systems and efficient parking lot lighting, Food City said.
