FL: Amazon to Expand in Palm Beach County, Creating Hundreds of Jobs
26 Aug, 2020
Amazon.com, Inc. announced plans to launch a new, state-of-the-art Amazon fulfillment center in Palm Beach County, creating hundreds of full-time jobs. Amazon currently operates seven fulfillment and sortation centers in the state in Miami, Jacksonville, Davenport, Orlando, Ruskin, and Lakeland.
“Amazon is proud to serve customers across Florida and we are excited to open a new fulfillment center in Palm Beach County,” said Melissa Nick, Amazon’s director of worldwide AMXL corporate operations. “Amazon is committed to providing great jobs with industry leading pay and benefits, starting on day one, in a safe, innovative work environment, and to be a good partner in the communities in which we operate. Our growth in Florida is the result of an outstanding workforce, strong local support, and incredible customers, and we are pleased to add hundreds of new jobs to the more than 30,000 Amazonians already working in the state.”
Associates at the more than one million-square-foot facility will work alongside innovative technologies to pick, pack and ship larger customer items such as mattresses, kayaks, grills and exercise equipment. In addition, Amazon will hire for roles in human resources, operations management, safety, security, finance and information technology.
“The addition of a third Amazon facility in our county is another boost to our logistics and distribution industry,” said Kelly Smallridge, President and CEO of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County. “Palm Beach County has earned a reputation as a top business destination with an extremely competitive talent pool. The County's Planning, Zoning and Building Department's expedited permitting program also played a critical role in bringing this project to fruition. We look forward to a long, successful relationship with Amazon that benefits our community, their clients, and employees alike.”
Amazon jobs are great jobs with great benefits. On top of the company’s industry-leading $15 minimum wage, full-time employees receive comprehensive benefits, including full medical, vision and dental insurance as well as a 401(k) with 50 percent company match, starting on day one. The company also offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families. At Amazon, these benefits and opportunities come with the job, as does the ability to communicate directly with the leadership of the company.
In addition, Amazon has pledged to invest over $700 million to provide upskilling training for 100,000 U.S. employees for in-demand jobs. Programs will help Amazonians from all backgrounds access training to move into highly skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers, retails stores and transportation network or pursue career paths outside of Amazon.
An Amazon presence in Palm Beach County means more than just the jobs provided within its four walls. In addition to full-benefit, great jobs inside the building, the company has brought thousands of jobs in construction and services. Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 30,000 jobs in Florida and invested more than $9.5 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation. These investments have contributed an additional $9 billion to the Florida economy and have helped create 29,000 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires – from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services. In addition, more than 140,000 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Florida are selling to customers in Amazon’s store, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state.
