The Business Development Board of Martin County announces the expansion of American Stairs, currently located in Palm City. The company has purchased a building at 9011 SW Old Kansas Avenue in Stuart and will add 10 new employees in the coming 24 months. Additionally, American Stairs plans to invest $1.43M in building, renovations, and equipment.

The Business Development Board of Martin County originally assisted American Stairs in 1998 when they decided to relocate from Lantana, FL. “The BDB was originally the reason we came to Martin County,” said Jamil Mikati. “Martin County itself kept us here as both a strategic, central location and with a welcoming and accommodating business environment.”

American Stairs anticipates moving into their new location, which sat vacant for 6 months prior to purchase, in the next 5 to 6 months. The company manufactures new staircases and railings for new home construction. They recently expanded into new markets including individual homeowners and retail sellers.

The Business Development Board is currently assisting the company with securing training dollars for new and existing employees, expedited electrical hook-up, sales tax exemptions of new equipment from the state of Florida, and expedited permitting through Martin County.

“We place tremendous importance on helping our existing companies navigate an expansion. Our local businesses possess the greatest potential for adding employees and we want to ensure their success,” said Tim Dougher, Co-Executive Director, Business Development Board of Martin County. “We are pleased to have a renewed commitment by American Stairs to stay and grow in Martin County and look forward to continuing to work with them.”

“We hope to grow even more and increase our market far beyond South Florida into more northern regions in the coming years,” continued Mikati.
