Southeast Indiana firms, G.F. Munich Welding, Talon Logistics Services LLC, Shoe Sensation Inc. and Nexgen Mold & Tool announced plans today to expand their operations in Southeast Indiana, creating up to 92 combined jobs by 2013.

"We are in constant competition with our neighbors for new investment and nowhere is that more evident than Southeast Indiana," said Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. "The announcement of four companies investing and creating new opportunities in Indiana shows that we are winning those competitions."

G.F. Munich Welding, a steel fabricator of structural components and machinery for the wastewater, mining and power generation industries, will invest more than $2.2 million to purchase equipment and additional real estate at its Jeffersonville manufacturing operations, creating up to 30 new jobs. The state of Indiana offered up to $150,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans.

"Munich Welding is looking forward to growing our business in Southern Indiana. The training grant will help us enter new markets and improve the skill sets of our employees. Indiana has really been very business friendly to us and we look forward to being here for a long time to come," said Joseph Papalia, president of G.F. Munich Welding.

Talon Logistics Services LLC, a provider of distribution, warehousing and brokered freight services, will invest more than $900,000 to consolidate operations currently located in Louisville, Ky. to its Clarksville distribution hub, creating up to 30 new jobs. The state of Indiana offered up to $175,000 in performance-based tax credits based on Talon's growth plans.

"Indiana understands what we are trying to do and has been supportive of our efforts, from the first time we sat down to talk to the One Southern Indiana and the IEDC and in every step we took to make our final decision," said Darren Pavey, president and chief operating officer for Talon Logistics Services, LLC. "This type of forward thinking played a major role in finalizing our decision to move our facility and place our future in the state of Indiana."

Shoe Sensation Inc., a regional shoe retailer, will invest more than $695,000 to lease and improve additional space at its Jeffersonville headquarters and distribution center, creating up to 20 new jobs. The state of Indiana offered up to $80,000 in training grants based on the company's growth plans.

"The state of Indiana and the city of Jeffersonville have been invaluable partners as we update our office and distribution facilities and continue to grow the number of Shoe Sensation retail stores that we operate throughout Indiana and surrounding states. We are excited about the new job opportunities our strategic expansion creates for local workers," said Michael Zawoysky, chief executive officer of Shoe Sensation Inc.

Nexgen Mold & Tool, a provider of plastic injection molding and contract manufacturing services will invest more than $3.1 million to construct and equip additional production space at its New Albany facility, creating up to 12 new jobs. The state of Indiana offered up to $48,000 in training grants based on Nexgen's growth plans.

"We are in an industry that is beginning to return to the levels of operation that were enjoyed by small manufacturers like ours prior to China's nascence in this industry," said John Lukes, president and chief executive officer of Nexgen Mold & Tool. "These types of programs will ensure that companies like ours will be able to grow successfully and regain prominence in many industries that were supplanted by foreign competitors. Many of our customers come from Indiana and the surrounding region and they are seeing the value of having their key suppliers in close proximity to themselves."

The city of Jeffersonville will consider additional property tax abatement for the GF Munich Welding and Shoe Sensation projects. The town of Clarksville is considering additional support for the Talon Logistics project. New Albany will consider property tax abatement for Nexgen Mold & Tool. One Southern Indiana will provide additional assistance in procuring local support for all projects.

"We don't want to take any business for granted - either new businesses or those that have been long-term members of our business community. We hope this pattern of growth is indicative of a new year full of more success stories like these," said Michael Dalby, president and chief executive officer of One Southern Indiana. "We also commend the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and local municipalities for their support of business and job creation."

The announced southeast Indiana expansions come just more than a month after Heartland Payment Systems announced its plans to invest more than $6.2 million to add 50,000 square feet of additional office space at its current Jeffersonville service center, creating up to 140 new jobs by the end of the year.
