Steel tank manufacturer Sabre Manufacturing, LLC announced today that it will expand its operations here, creating up to 25 new jobs by the end of 2012.

The company, which manufactures temporary fluid storage equipment tanks for the environmental, oil and gas industries, will invest more than $640,000 to purchase and equip 15,500 square feet of space adjacent to its existing facility at 5420 East State Road 8 in Knox.

"Sabre is a homegrown Hoosier company that continues to invest and create new jobs in Northwest Indiana," said Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. "Creating an environment that encourages companies like Sabre to grow is a top priority for our state."

The company, which currently employs more than 145 associates, plans to begin hiring additional manufacturing and supervisory associates later this summer as the new facility becomes operational.

"Our company's decision to expand in Starke County has been made possible once again through the efforts of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the city of Knox and the Starke County Economic Development Foundation," said Jason Ries, plant manager at Sabre's Knox operations. "We are grateful to all of them and look forward to many more years of success in Starke County."

Founded in 2005 in Knox, Sabre originated with six employees. The company announced plans in 2008 to upgrade its facilities and retrain employees, creating more than 50 new jobs. Today, Sabre operates three production shifts serving customers throughout the United States and Canada.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Sabre Manufacturing, LLC up to $125,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $31,250 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. The city of Knox will consider additional property tax phase-in at the request of the Starke County Economic Development Foundation.

"We are enthusiastic about yet another expansion by Sabre in Knox, and our Common Council unanimously supports the offer of tax abatement to Sabre based on their plan for expansion," said Knox Mayor Rick Chambers. "This is another opportunity for people to secure employment with a proven company right here in Starke County."

Sabre's announcement comes just one week after Modern Forge, an aerospace, truck and recreational equipment parts manufacturer, announced plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Merrillville, investing more than $17 million and creating up to 240 jobs by 2014.
