L & D Mail Masters to Expand; Create 24 New Jobs; Invest $1.2M

Direct Mail Distributor to Expand Its New Albany Operations L&D Mail Masters, a designer and distributor of direct mail for national corporations, announced that it will expand its operations here, creating up to 24 new jobs and creating advanced training opportunities for more than 85 existing workers. The company, which designs, develops and distributes direct mail marketing campaigns for national commercial customers will invest more than $1.2 million to upgrade hardware and software to implement additional digital printing capabilities at its 188,000 square-foot facility in the suburban Louisville, Ky., community. "L&D Mail Masters is a great example of an entrepreneurial company that is continuing to find a way to grow despite a down national economy," said Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. Founded more than 20 years ago in New Albany, L&D has grown to employ more than 130 associates at its Southern Indiana headquarters and production facility. The company plans to begin hiring additional print and supervisory associates immediately as the new print line is phased in. "Indiana has been a great place to work and has a talented workforce from which to choose. Our company has been very fortunate to have the state support our goals for lifelong learning," said Diane Fischer, owner and president of L&D Mail Masters. The Women's Business Enterprise (WBE), which originated out of a home office in 1986, now operates out of three facilities which combined handle more than 800,000 pieces of mail per day. L&D's annual sales have grown to more than $21 million annually. L&D Mail Masters received a $62,000 grant from the state's Skills Enhancement Fund to undergo a weeklong program to train new and existing employees in web-to-print marketing methods along with other industry and company specific training programs. "L&D Mail Masters is one of our most successful companies. The City of New Albany is pleased they continue to invest and add Hoosier jobs here. In these challenging times, this is especially fantastic news," said New Albany Mayor Doug England. L&D Mail Masters' announced expansion follows the April announcement of Flow International, a manufacturer of abrasive waterjet cutting technology, that it would expand its Jeffersonville operations, creating up to nine new jobs by the end of the year.
