IA: Sub-Zero Announces Expansion in Cedar Rapids, Adding Jobs and Manufacturing Capacity

Apr 30, 2026

Sub-Zero Group, Inc. announced plans to expand its manufacturing operations in Cedar Rapids, reinforcing the city’s position as a growing hub for advanced manufacturing in the Midwest. The $196 million expansion will add approximately 230,000 square feet to the company’s existing 600,000-square-foot facility on the city’s southwest side and is expected to create 312 new jobs, bringing total employment at the site to more than 500.

Headquartered in Madison, Sub-Zero manufactures premium kitchen appliances under the Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove brands and is widely recognized for its high-end refrigeration and cooking products.

“This expansion is a major win for Cedar Rapids and a testament to the strength of our workforce and business climate,” said Tiffany O’Donnell, Mayor. “Sub-Zero’s continued investment in our community reflects the confidence global manufacturers have in Cedar Rapids as a place to grow, innovate, and create high-quality jobs.”

The project is expected to enhance production capacity while further integrating advanced manufacturing technologies into the facility.

“Sub-Zero’s decision to expand here speaks volumes about the partnerships we’ve built and our ability to support long-term industrial growth,” said Jeff Pomeranz, City Manager.“This kind of investment not only creates jobs but also strengthens our broader economic ecosystem—from suppliers to workforce development.”

Local and regional economic development leaders emphasized the broader impact of the expansion on the corridor economy.

“This is exactly the type of project we work to attract and retain,” said Juliet Abdel, CEO Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance. “Sub-Zero is a world-class manufacturer, and their expansion signals that Cedar Rapids can compete for advanced manufacturing investment. The job creation and capital investment will have a lasting impact on our region.”

The southwest side of Cedar Rapids has emerged as a key industrial growth area, benefiting from strong transportation access and available development sites.

“Projects like this highlight the importance of having shovel-ready sites and infrastructure in place,” said Mike Lukan, Director of Economic Development. “We’re seeing sustained demand for industrial space, and Sub-Zero’s expansion reinforces that Cedar Rapids is well-positioned to support large-scale manufacturing operations.”

Construction timelines and additional project details will be announced as planning progresses.

“Cedar Rapids has proven to be the right place for our people and our business,” said Scott Wareing, senior vice president of operations and product design for Sub-Zero. “This expansion reflects our long-term commitment to the community, our confidence in the local workforce, and our focus on building high-quality manufacturing capabilities that support Sub-Zero’s growth for decades to come.”
