Amazon plans to open its first fulfillment center in the state of Louisiana, reports the publication Chain Store Age. The new facility, in the town of Carencro, is anticipated to launch in 2021 and will create over 500 new, full-time jobs.
In the new 1-million-sq.-ft. center, Amazon associates will pick, pack, and ship bulky or larger-sized customer items such as patio furniture, outdoor equipment, or rugs. Amazon currently operates three delivery stations and seven Whole Foods Market locations in Louisiana.

From 2010-2019, Amazon says it has invested more than $250 million in Louisiana, including infrastructure and compensation to employees in the state. According to Amazon, its investments in Louisiana contributed an additional more than $220 million into the state’s economy over that same time period.
Using methodology developed by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Amazon estimates its investments in Louisiana have created an additional 750-plus indirect jobs on top of the company's current 1,500-plus full- and part-time direct hires. There are more than 14,500 independent authors and small and medium-sized businesses in the state selling products on Amazon.
