Taminco Higher Airlines Inc. to Expand Facility; Create 20 New Jobs; Invest $29M

Apr 29, 2009

Taminco Higher Amines Inc. announced plans to expand its facility in St. Gabriel, La. The company is scheduled to begin operating three new production units by early 2010. Two of the units will be relocated from the Taminco Riverview site located near Detroit, Mich., and one unit will be a new, grassroots facility.

"Despite the national recession, companies continue to invest here and demonstrate their confidence in our state," said Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret.

The company will invest approximately $29 million, creating at least 150 construction jobs and 20 new, permanent jobs. In addition, the company will retain 53 employees and 15 resident contractors at the St. Gabriel facility.

"This expansion is a good fit for St. Gabriel because we already produce most of the raw materials needed for the new process units, and we are close to our customer base," said St. Gabriel Site Manager Mitch Corona. "In addition, the St. Gabriel location is supported by a number of local technical schools, which provide a qualified pool of operators and technicians for continued growth."

Construction on the facility is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2009. The company will be taking advantage of the Louisiana Quality Jobs Program and the Industrial Tax Exemption Program with assistance provided by LED.

With facilities and employees throughout the globe, Taminco specializes in producing and marketing amines and derived molecules. The three new units at the St. Gabriel facility will produce a variety of products that are used in water treatments, pharmaceuticals, chemicals for paints and coatings.
