MD: Governor Announces Latest Recipients of Maryland Manufacturing 4.0 Grant Program

Feb 27, 2026

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced that 22 small and mid-sized manufacturers have received grants from the Maryland Manufacturing 4.0 program, an initiative that helps local businesses invest in Industry 4.0 technologies. The Maryland Department of Commerce awarded a total of $2 million to businesses in 10 different jurisdictions, supporting more than 1,100 jobs in Maryland.

“Investing in advanced technologies allows Maryland’s businesses to modernize their operations, remain competitive, and drive economic growth in our state,” said Gov. Moore. “We’re proud to support the Maryland Manufacturing 4.0 program’s continued success and ensure that local businesses have innovative resources to help them thrive.”

Similar to smart manufacturing, which emphasizes the role of new technology in manufacturing, Industry 4.0 represents the fourth industrial revolution, focusing on the digitization and automation of manufacturing facilities to help companies remain competitive and drive business growth. Anticipated outcomes from investing in Industry 4.0 technologies could include increased productivity and sales, cost savings, retention and skill training of employees, and more.

Projects approved for funding include implementing a photo laser system to bring printed circuit board fabrication in-house; installing automated batching and robotic tray systems to streamline granola production and increase new products; and purchasing a high-performance AI computing system to enable real-time bioprocess optimization and scaling of phage production.

The governor’s proposed budget includes $2 million in funding for the Manufacturing 4.0 program in FY2027.

“Since its inception, the Maryland Manufacturing 4.0 program has awarded nearly $9 million to 113 businesses across the state,” said Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr. “This additional funding will bolster Maryland’s manufacturing industry – including everything from aircraft assembly to fabric and wallpaper production – as we continue to build the businesses of tomorrow.”
