Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced that Lufburrow & Company (LufCo) is expanding in Maryland and opening a new research and development and manufacturing facility. The company has purchased a 73,000 square-foot facility at 1204 Technology Drive in Aberdeen – the former Battelle Eastern Science and Technology Center – where it is setting up an advanced manufacturing capability for microelectronics. LufCo currently employs more than 100 workers in Maryland and expects to create 120 full-time jobs at this new facility.
“Maryland’s powerful innovation economy needs strategists, engineers and problem-solvers like the team at LufCo,” said Gov. Moore. “With skills in areas like machine learning, cryptographic systems, prototyping and more, the company puts its tremendous talent to work for its clients, and we’re proud to see them expand and create new jobs here in Maryland.”
LufCo is a certified woman-owned small business comprised of driven, creative engineers and business strategists. The company specializes in mission-critical systems engineering and strategic innovation to give the warfighter a decisive edge. LufCo supports a wide range of clients, including the Department of Defense, various state and federal agencies, private companies, and nonprofits.
“LufCo’s mission is to empower warfighters with actionable technologies and tools required to dominate the evolving battlespace,” said LufCo Chief Executive Officer Heather Couvillon Lufburrow. “LufCo is proud to partner with the State of Maryland and Harford County to continue our investment in developing a next generation advanced manufacturing capability to achieve this mission.”
To assist with project costs, the Maryland Department of Commerce is working to approve a $600,000 conditional loan through Advantage Maryland. In addition, the Harford County Office of Economic Development is providing a $60,000 grant to help the company complete critical infrastructure upgrades at the project site. LufCo is also eligible for various state and local tax credits including the Job Creation Tax Credit and the Enterprise Zone Tax Credit.
“We are proud to support LufCo’s new R&D and manufacturing operation in Aberdeen,” said Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr. “As they expand, the company will find an incredible pool of talent to draw from – our highly-skilled and technologically-advanced workforce – and will thrive in Maryland’s advanced manufacturing sector.”
“We are excited that LufCo has chosen to grow their operations in Harford County and make such an investment in the Aberdeen Technology Park,” said Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly. “Their acquisition and modernization of an existing facility, development of cutting-edge technologies and cultivation of highly-skilled jobs in our community align with our vision for economic development and will be an anchor for more synergistic business expansion development in support of our nation’s defense.”
