MD: New Sphere Entertainment Venue Coming to Maryland, With Thousands of Jobs

Jan 23, 2026

The creators behind the famous Sphere entertainment venue in Las Vegas are planning a second, smaller-scale destination in Maryland.

The proposed 6,000 seat venue would be located in National Harbor, just 15 minutes from the nation’s capital in Prince George’s County. As a top destination in the Mid Atlantic, National Harbor welcomes more than 15 million visitors each year to its retail shops, restaurants, casino, convention center, and recreational assets.

“This innovative project will further reinforce National Harbor as the national capital region’s premier destination…deliver more economic activity and jobs; and elevate National Harbor, and Maryland, as one of the country’s preeminent tourism and entertainment hubs,” said Jon Peterson, CEO of the Peterson Companies.

Sphere would support approximately 2,500 construction jobs and 4,750 jobs once operational, in addition to generating millions in revenue for the county and state. The economic impact is expected to be greater than $1 billion annually.

The project is a partnership between the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County, Peterson Companies, and Sphere Entertainment Co. / Madison Square Garden. Business attraction efforts were led by the Maryland Department of Commerce and discussed throughout 2025.

“Sphere is a new experiential medium,” said Sphere Entertainment CEO James L. Dolan. “Our focus has always been on creating a global network of Spheres across forward-looking cities.”

The Las Vegas Sphere was recently ranked #1 on both Billboard’s and Pollstar’s 2025 lists of top-grossing venues worldwide. The new Maryland landmark will drive significant economic, cultural and community benefits for the region and provide unparalleled immersive experiences powered by advanced technologies.
