New Balance Athletics plans to open to open an advanced manufacturing facility in Methuen, MA.
On December 18, a joint meeting of the Methuen City Council and Community Development Board discussed the necessary zoning changes to allow the project to move forward.
“Having a great Massachusetts company like New Balance Athletics see the value of expanding their manufacturing footprint here in Methuen is a win for our city. Not only will this new facility bring millions of dollars of investment, it will, most importantly, create jobs,” said Methuen Mayor Jim Jajuga in a statement. “These are the opportunities that will allow Methuen to expand our commercial base, create opportunity for our residents, provide additional economic development, and improve the fiscal health of our city. I look forward to welcoming New Balance Athletics to Methuen.”
“New Balance is excited about the opportunity to expand our domestic manufacturing footprint in the Merrimac Valley through our intent to purchase 596 Lowell Street in Methuen” stated Amy Dow, New Balance Athletics Director of public relations and government affairs. “This factory would complement our existing manufacturing facility in Lawrence by specifically housing our advanced manufacturing operations and, if our plans proceed as scheduled, we would begin operat ions within the next 12 to 18 months. We greatly appreciate the support of Mayor Jajuga and the Department of Economic & Community Development in helping us to achieve our goals of continued innovation in manufacturing and increased workforce opportunities.”
The new facility, which would be located at 596 Lowell Street, will include advance manufacturing, research and development and 3D printing operations for New Balance Athletics, a multinational corporation based in the Boston area.
