MO: Capgemini to Create 125 new High-tech Jobs in Lee's Summit

A global information technologies company that serves a worldwide clientele is expanding its local operations in Lee's Summit and plans to create 125 high-tech jobs there over the next five years, Gov. Jay Nixon announced recently.

Capgemini, a leader in consulting, technology, outsourcing and other professional services, will establish a new division for the delivery of IT services to local, state and federal government agencies. The Governor toured the company's facility today before making the announcement, where he was joined by company and local leaders.

"Having a global corporation like Capgemini increase its investment in Missouri and plan to create 125 jobs is another step in the right direction for our state and our economy," Gov. Nixon said. "Companies invest in Missouri because we have the right workforce, the right economic tools and the right priorities. We will continue to fight every single day, for every single job to move Missouri forward."

Headquartered in Paris with locations in Europe, North America and Asia, Capgemini provides consulting, technology and outsourcing services to a variety of global industries, including automotive, aerospace and defense, consumer products, transportation, energy and utilities, financial services, life sciences, manufacturing, public sector and retail. The company's Government Solutions division is one of the world's premier providers of professional IT services and solutions to both commercial and government clients. The company has maintained a location in the Kansas City area since 1997, and already employs 150 workers at its Lee's Summit location.

At its Lee's Summit location, Capgemini plans to establish a Public Sector Center of Excellence, which will serve as a delivery location of IT services for local, state and federal government agencies. Services for clients will include developing and maintaining a variety of applications such as human resource reports, payroll and tax systems, and implementing and maintaining the technical infrastructure necessary for governments and companies to run their operations. To staff the new operation, Capgemini plans to hire 125 new application analysts, developers and testers over the next five years.

The state of Missouri helped make Capgemini's expansion possible through a preliminary authorization of $1.2 million in Missouri Quality Jobs Program tax credits for the project, as well as $125,000 in recruitment assistance. Incentives under the Quality Jobs Program are conditioned on strict job-creation criteria. Provided the company fulfills the criteria, it would be eligible to receive those incentives over a period of five years.
