Gov. Bev Perdue announced recently that Frontier Logistics, a provider of logistics services to the plastics industry, will locate a new warehouse and transfer facility in Montgomery County. The company plans to create 71 jobs and invest $5.15 million during the next five years in Star. The project was made possible in part by a $128,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.
“In the 21st century global economy, moving goods quickly and efficiently is critical. I’ve focused North Carolina on the need for investing in logistics and transportation infrastructure,” said Gov. Perdue. “North Carolina’s strategic location, excellent transportation network and strong business climate continue to help us attract new jobs. I welcome Frontier Logistics to Montgomery County.”
Frontier Logistics provides diverse and complete supply chain management services with a special focus on the plastics industry. Based in Texas, Frontier Logistics is seeking to expand its services to southeastern markets. The company will locate a new warehouse, packaging and bulk truck transfer services facility in Star to serve the plastics industry in the Southeast.
Salaries will vary by job function, but the average annual wage for the new jobs will be $47,577 not including benefits. The Montgomery County average annual wage is $28,028.

The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds. These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.
“North Carolina’s leaders had the courage during the depths of the recession to continue investing in education, training and transportation,” said Rep. Ken Goodman, of Rockingham. “Those investments are paying off with a highly skilled workforce that is encouraging companies like Frontier Logistics to expand or relocate here.”
“This announcement by Frontier Logistics is welcome news for the people of Montgomery County, and I am optimistic that this is the beginning of an economic rebound,” said Sen. Jerry Tillman of Archdale.
North Carolina continues to have a top-ranked business climate. Through Gov. Perdue’s JobsNOW initiative, the state works aggressively to create jobs, train and retrain its workforce, and lay the foundation for a strong and sustainable economic future.
Through use of the One NC Fund, more than 50,000 jobs and $9 billion in investment have been created since 2001. Other partners that helped with this project include: the N.C. Department of Commerce, N.C. Community Colleges, Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation, Town of Star, Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway Company, Montgomery Community College, the N.C. Rural Center and Montgomery County.
