OH: Meijer to Open Two Supercenter Locations in Ohio in April

Mar 29, 2022
Meijer plans to open two new supercenters in northeastern Ohio in April.

Meijer says it will open two new supercenters—in Brunswick and Canton, Ohio—at the end of April, reports Supermarket News. Both locations also will have adjacent Meijer Express gas stations, which are scheduled to open March 31.

According to Tom Wilson, regional vice president at Meijer, the Brunswick and Canton supercenters will offer grocery, fresh produce, bakery, meat and deli departments plus a pharmacy, a floral area and garden center, and sections for pet care, electronics, toys, sports and apparel. Weekly Meijer sales are set to launch on opening day at both stores, which also will feature special promotions and events following opening day.

“It’s extremely exciting to continue expanding our presence in Northeast Ohio,” Wilson said in a statement. “Over the last two years, our store teams have helped families meet unprecedented challenges by providing fresh grocery options and supporting their pharmacy needs. Now we’re gearing up to bring our one-stop shopping experience to new communities in Brunswick and Canton.”

Meijer had last opened new supercenters in May 2021, including three 155,000-square-foot locations in Seven Hills and Boardman, Ohio, and Westfield, Ind., reports Supermarket News. Before that, the retailer had opened five supercenters in July 2020.

Since opening its first store in the Columbus area in 1981, Meijer, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., noted that it has invested heavily in Ohio, most recently building seven supercenters in the greater Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown areas. The chain currently operates 20 stores overall in Ohio.
