Governor Tom Corbett recently toured Lord & Taylor’s distribution center in Wilkes-Barre, where he praised plans to open a call center at the facility which will bring more than 100 jobs to the local economy.
“I am committed to fostering the pro-growth, pro-business environment that will ensure Lord & Taylor’s continued economic contribution to this region,” said Corbett. “When government works as an ally to business, instead of working against them, we all succeed. This distribution center is a great example of that success.”
Gov. Corbett discussed his commitment to working with all Pennsylvania businesses to ensure future growth and job creation. Founded in 1826, Lord & Taylor is America’s oldest department store and remains one of the nation’s premier retailers.
“Lord & Taylor will grow from its current 188 employees here in Wilkes-Barre to more than 288 employees. The economic impact on this community is undeniable, and one the commonwealth is proud to support,’’ Corbett said.
Corbett visited Lord & Taylor at the conclusion of a three-day tour of the Northeast region, which included exploring Pennsylvania’s natural resources while kayaking on the Susquehanna River. Also during the tour, Corbett visited state parks and local attractions, noting the impact of tourism on Pennsylvania’s economy and talking with area residents during lunch stops.
“When I was elected governor, I committed to putting Pennsylvania back on track,’’ Corbett said. “To honor that commitment, I have focused on policies that allow business to stay and grow in the commonwealth. This includes businesses -- like Lord & Taylor -- that are adding jobs to the economy, as well as our tourism attractions, state parks and outdoor pursuits that make Pennsylvania a great place to live and work.’’
