SC: Carver Maritime Expanding in Charleston County, Creating 22 Jobs

21 Nov, 2019

Carver Maritime, LLC, an industrial port known for its shipping and warehousing storage operations, announced plans to expand its existing operations in Charleston County. The more than $14 million investment is expected to create 22 new jobs.

With a deep-water pier for loading and offloading ships and barges, along with more than half-a-million square feet of warehousing space, Carver Maritime accommodates ships carrying cargo such as salt, break bulk, gypsum and stone aggregates. The company's 400-acre marine terminal offers dock capability for ships up to 750 feet with a draft of 36 feet.

Located at 1400 Pierside Street, Building 190, Suite D in North Charleston, S.C., the company is constructing a modern processing and distribution center that will export through the Hugh K. Leatherman, Sr. Terminal at the Port of Charleston and Palmetto Railways' planned Navy Base Intermodal Facility.

The new facility is expected to be online by the summer of 2020. Those interested in joining the Carver Maritime team should contact hr@carvercompanies.com.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved a $100,000 Set-Aside grant to Charleston County to assist with costs of building improvements.

"First, we would like to give credit to Charleston County Economic Development, the city of North Charleston and the State of South Carolina for their competitive spirit of attracting new and growing existing businesses within Charleston. Like many companies, we could have expanded our business by the lure of incentives from other states, but the fact Charleston County really wanted our business to grow here was the primary reason we made this capital investment." -President and CEO of Carver Companies Carver Laraway

"South Carolina's port, an economic driver for the whole state, is the best on the East Coast, and this expansion if further proof of that. We're excited for Carver Maritime, and the impact that they have not just in Charleston, but across South Carolina." -Gov. Henry McMaster

"Today, we're excited to celebrate another big win for South Carolina. When companies like Carver Maritime decide to invest more in our state and grow their footprint here, it shows that what we're doing is working. I look forward to watching Carver Maritime continue to thrive here for many years to come." -Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt

"Charleston County's diverse and prepared workforce made it possible for Carver Maritime to expand their operations. We congratulate Carver Maritime on their continued success in the Lowcountry." -Charleston County Council Chairman Elliott Summey
