SC: New-Indy Containerboard Establishing Operations in York County

Dec 24, 2019
New-Indy Containerboard, a manufacturer and supplier of recycled containerboard for the corrugated box industry, announced plans to establish operations in York County at a recently-acquired pulp and paper mill facility. The company is investing $240 million in the project.

Founded in 2012, New-Indy Containerboard uses 100% recycled fiber in its current manufacturing process. This acquisition will provide the ability to balance company product lines equally between virgin kraft and recycled containerboard.

The mill, located at 5300 Cureton Ferry Road in Catawba, S.C., currently produces lightweight communication papers. New-Indy Containerboard is investing in process equipment to convert the mill to ultra-lightweight, virgin kraft linerboard, improving the competitiveness of the facility. The York County mill will continue utilize wood from local suppliers in its operations.

The equipment conversion and new operations are expected to be online during the fourth quarter of 2020. Individuals interested in joining the New-Indy Containerboard team should visit https://newindycontainerboard.com/employment/.

"New-Indy Containerboard is excited about our acquisition of the pulp and paper mill located in Catawba, South Carolina. We want to thank the York County Council and the South Carolina Department of Commerce for the valuable assistance they provided during the purchase process. Their support is critical to the facility's continued growth and success, and we look forward to a close and long- lasting relationship with both of these entities." -New-Indy Containerboard COO Rick Hartman
