TN: Governor Bredesen, Commissioner Kisber, Mayor Dean Announce Asurion Expansion in Nashville

Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber and Nashville Mayor Karl Dean recently joined with executives of Asurion to announce an agreement which will keep the company's corporate headquarters in Davidson County and expand the presence of one of the nation's leading technology protection companies in Tennessee. Under the agreement, Asurion has committed to add more than 500 jobs to its current Tennessee workforce of 2,400 employees over the next five years.

"This announcement really demonstrates how the partnership between the state of Tennessee and Metro Nashville is expanding Nashville's attractiveness to new business, especially corporate headquarters," said Governor Bredesen. "The fact that Asurion came here with a few hundred employees and now employs more than 2,000 speaks to the business climate of the city and the state."

"Asurion has experienced very steady growth over the past few years," said Commissioner Kisber. "With society's growing reliance on mobile technology to perform everyday tasks, Asurion is a global leader in this sector of the marketplace and to have them thriving here in Tennessee is a testament to our state's business climate."

"Asurion is one of Nashville's great corporate successes," said Mayor Dean. "I'm very pleased we've been able to work closely with the state of Tennessee, the Chamber and Asurion to put together a plan to accommodate the company's growth and secure hundreds of good paying jobs for our citizens."

Asurion relocated its corporate headquarters from California to Nashville in 2003 with a plan to create 600 new jobs. Since that original announcement, the company has grown its Tennessee-based workforce by 1,800 people. The company originally began with a business model focused on providing roadside rescue services to stranded motorists, then expanded into insuring, recovering and repairing mobile phones and home electronics. Today, those services are provided to more than 90 million customers around the world.

Asurion operates out of headquarters facilities in Grassmere Park in Nashville and operates two technology and logistics centers in Rutherford County. The company has not yet announced whether the expansion plans will focus on existing facilities or a new site within Davidson County.
