Gov. Matt Bevin congratulated Mayfield Consumer Products LLC, which designs and manufactures branded candles and home fragrance products, on its plans to add a facility and expand an existing building in Graves County with more than $8.3 million in investment that will create 52 full-time jobs.
“Mayfield Consumer Products has been a great employer and strong corporate citizen for the past 20 years, and we are grateful for the company’s decision to continue expanding here in Kentucky,” Gov. Bevin said. “These 52 new jobs will provide a significant boost to the local economy, and returning a dormant facility to operation is an added bonus of this exciting venture. Congratulations to MCP and the people of Graves County on this growing partnership.”
MCP, retained by the Propes family after divesting their interests in MVP Group International, will use $5.55 million of its investment for the purchase and renovation of an existing 80,000-square-foot-plus facility on Rifle Trail in Mayfield that formerly housed Remington. The new facility will create 35 jobs and its operation will consist of increased capacity as well as creating multiple new manufacturing capabilities in an effort to expand into diversified markets and create more value added services.
The company also will expand its existing operation in Mayfield with a more than $2.77 million investment that will create 17 additional employees. Both projects come in response to increased customer demand within MCP’s candle production business.

MCP was founded in Mayfield in 1998 and currently employs 245 people. The company contract manufactures for many of the world’s top brands that have a global reach.
Sen. Stan Humphries, of Cadiz, commended the company for building strong relationships in the community.
“I am pleased to congratulate Mayfield Consumer Products on its expansion announcement,” Sen. Humphries said. “This company has been a wonderful community and economic partner in our region during its 20 years, and I am proud that MCP has chosen to continue expanding in Graves County by utilizing our local workforce and all the resources Western Kentucky has to offer.”
Rep. Richard Heath, of Mayfield, expressed appreciation for MCP’s commitment.
“I’m grateful that Mayfield Consumer Products is investing in a facility that will bring more than 50 jobs to Graves County,” Rep. Heath said. “MCP was founded in Mayfield about 20 years ago and is a strong employer in the area. I am happy that the company is giving back to such a vibrant community.”
Sandra K. Dunahoo, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Local Government, praised the company’s growth.
“It’s gratifying to see this family-owned business grow, and I’m pleased that DLG could play a role involved in this expansion,” Commissioner Dunahoo said. “This project stands to be game-changing for residents of Graves County and the surrounding area, for whom this expansion creates new employment opportunities. This is a prime example of how the public and private sectors can come together for the benefit of Kentuckians.”
Mayfield Mayor Teresa Rochetti-Cantrell said the community has worked hard to provide companies like MCP with the appropriate work environment.
“My standing quote for my administration is that no one should have to move to live in a better neighborhood. While that’s true for neighborhoods, it’s even truer for industry,” Mayor Rochetti-Cantrell said. “The city and county have worked together to make sure this home-grown industry’s environment is conducive to its continuing needs. I cannot think of a better Mayfield-Graves County success story than the one we’re celebrating today with MCP.”
Graves County Judge-Executive Jesse Perry said great things continue to come to Graves County because of the local leadership’s combined efforts.
“I would like to thank MCP for investing in our community,” Judge-Executive Perry said. “This boost helps to continue with our vision to see Graves County thrive. In addition, I would like to thank all those locally who have worked on making this possible. We have a great team that is focused on growing Graves County. We are very blessed.”
Graves County ED Ryan Drane said MCP ownership is committed to providing job opportunities in their hometown.
“We are so excited that MCP has chosen to expand their operations in Mayfield and Graves County. The fact that they are a home-grown company choosing to invest in our community because they understand the important role they play in the lives of our citizens further shows how much the Propes family values their hometown. They want to leave a legacy and our community will continue to support their efforts,” Drane said. “This wouldn't be possible without the help from our many partners at the state and local government levels, as well as with agencies such as TVA and PACRO. Their support pushed this deal to make the expansion possible in Mayfield and Graves County and we are extremely grateful for their contributions.”
To encourage the investment and job growth in the community, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) in April preliminarily approved the company for tax incentives up to $700,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program. Thirty-five of the 52 projected jobs were incentivized as part of this agreement. In May, KEDFA preliminarily approved the company for an additional $300,000 for phase II of the project and the remaining job creation. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the agreement term through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.
In addition, MCP can receive resources from the Kentucky Skills Network. Through the Kentucky Skills Network, companies can receive no-cost recruitment and job placement services, reduced-cost customized training and job training incentives. In fiscal 2017, the Kentucky Skills Network provided training for more than 120,000 Kentuckians and 5,700 companies from a variety of industry sectors.
