GE Appliances is expanding production at its Louisville, Ken., manufacturing complex and has pledge $450 million in capital investments – which will lead to an additional 1,000 jobs by late 2023. The investment is characterized by GEA as a plan to increase its domestic manufacturing presence.
“GE Appliances continues to bring manufacturing back to the United States – creating jobs and economic growth,” stated president and CEO Kevin Nolan. “We want zero distance between us and the millions of families across America we serve with our products.”
The Appliance Park complex in Louisville – long operated by General Electric but owned by China’s Haier Group Corp. since it acquired GE Appliances in 2017 – currently has about 7,100 workers. Most of the openings will be assembly line jobs, though some managerial and operations-support positions will be available too.
Appliance Park has five plants that produce washers, dryers, dishwashers and refrigerators, as well as parts and components. GE Appliances also has manufacturing plants in South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee.
The details of the capital investment have not been provided, though GE Appliances said it will continue to upgrade facilities, increase capacity, and launch new products. Sources indicated the company would focus its investments on laundry, dishwasher, and refrigeration production lines there.
GE Appliances reports it invested more than $1.3 billion in its U.S. manufacturing and distribution operations and created more than 3,000 new jobs since it acquired the business five years ago.
