Governor Steve Beshear recently joined community leaders and officials from MD2U Management to celebrate the expansion of the in-home medical provider’s Louisville headquarters. The company will more than triple the size of its workforce over the next years, adding 50 new jobs to its existing employment base of 22. Additionally, the expansion will result in a capital investment of nearly $1.7 million in the Commonwealth.
“The growth of MD2U’s corporate headquarters is a testament to many advantages Kentucky’s business climate and quality of life has to offer,” Gov. Beshear said. “We have worked hard to cultivate growth in health care and medical businesses, particularly in Louisville, and it’s clear those efforts are working. Companies like MD2U continue to choose Kentucky as a place to invest and expand, and we are pleased to be part of their success story.”
Founded in 2004, MD2U provides primary medical care for chronic and acute illnesses within a patient’s home. The company has added approximately 5,000 square feet to its existing 2,500-square-foot corporate headquarters operation to fulfill back office administration.
“This new expanded space will allow MD2U to serve more home-bound and home-limited patients in the setting that they prefer, in their home,” said Dr. Mike Benfield, CEO of MD2U. “Making house calls to the chronically ill gives patients access to great care in a low-cost environment and often prevents costly emergency room visits and hospitalizations. We are very proud to be headquartered in Louisville, Ky. as we expand our footprint throughout the United States.”
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved MD2U Management for tax incentives up to $400,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows the company to keep a portion of its investment over the term of the agreement through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.
“We are fortunate that in our area, chronically ill residents can now have many of their health care needs conveniently provided by MD2U right in their own home,” said Sen. Julie Denton, of Louisville.
“It is essential that we provide high-quality, home health care to those in our Commonwealth, especially those who are chronically ill,” said Rep. Julie Raque Adams, of Louisville. “Today’s announcement is not only good news for those in need of the type of care that MD2U can provide but also great news for Louisville’s economy as we add more jobs to our metro workforce.”
“The work at MD2U is an example of how Louisville is leading the nation in the aging care and lifelong wellness industry,” said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. “Innovations are occurring in our city every day in the aging and health fields, from new advances in tactical items such as lighter wheelchairs and hospital beds that help prevent bed sores to innovations in house calls. All of this is good news for the medical field and even better news for our economy because it creates jobs.”
