Publix continued expanding into its eighth state by opening a new store in Lexington, Ky., it's second location in the city. Located at the Fountains at Palomar shopping center, the store will be 55,700 square feet and feature an adjacent Publix Liquors that will offer beer, wine and spirits, according to a release.
“We are excited to open our second location in Lexington at The Fountains at Palomar,” said Publix Media Relations Manager Jared Glover. “Customers can start their shopping trip at our Pours café, where they can enjoy a cup of coffee or any of our delicious drinks, or hang out and refresh with an acai bowl or smoothie.”
To celebrate its 95th anniversary, Publix gave commemorative reusable bags to the first 95 customers at the grand opening.
Publix opened its first Kentucky location in Jan. 2024 in Louisville, located in the Terra Crossing Shopping Center. It features the company's first Publix Liquors outside of Florida. The chain's first Lexington store opened March 5 at the Citation Point shopping center before the first of four planned northern Kentucky stores opened March 26.
The company has also confirmed two more locations in Louisville, one more in Lexington, one in Owensboro and one in Elizabethtown.
Kentucky marks Publix's eighth state of operation, with locations in Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and more.
This was the latest in a line of openings for Publix, coming on the heels of the May 28 debut of a store in Gainesville, Ga., as well as in Charlotte and Rolesville, N.C.
Publix also recently announced it is planning to build a 50,000-square-foot new store at Watersound West Bay Center in Panama City Beach, Fla. The location, which includes a pharmacy, deli, bakery and adjacent liquor store, is anticipated to break ground later this year.
