In the first quarter of 2021, U.S. auto sales surged 12 percent from depressed levels measured in the first quarter of 2020. Strong demand accounted for an increase of 430,000 units, reaching 3.97 million, up from a year ago when the pandemic triggered lockdowns. Most manufacturers posted net sales gains, which favored automakers with light truck portfolios. more...
